Tell us who you are, what you do, and where you’re from.

I'm Amy Nichole, a lifestyle photographer in the vibrant city of Las Vegas, NV. Beyond the lens, I am a 4x Melanoma and Cervical cancer survivor, on a mission to educate and inspire. Alongside my husband Alex and our Australian Shepherd Roxy, we embark on a thrilling journey, living life on the road in our Airstream for six months each year, driven by our love for the outdoors.

What does sun safety mean to you, and what role does it play in your life?

Sun safety isn't just a routine; it's our shield against the sun's intensity. As someone who has faced the shadows of melanoma 4x, it's a constant reminder of our commitment to health. On the road, in the heart of nature, it becomes our armour against the elements, ensuring our adventures are not tainted by the risks of unprotected sun exposure.

What would you tell your 16-year-old self about taking care of your skin?

To my younger self, I would convey a message of empowerment. Lay aside the allure of tanning, embrace your natural beauty and skin tone, and prioritize the care of your skin. In avoiding the mistakes of my teenage years, I would emphasize the importance of sunscreen, wearing sun protective clothing, seeking shade, and understanding that true radiance comes from healthy choices.

What is your attitude towards sun protection today?

Sun protection is a non-negotiable part of my daily routine. Whether exploring the great outdoors or capturing moments behind the lens, I am vigilant. From applying sunscreen, wearing a wide brim hat to wearing protective gear, my attitude is one of proactive care, guarding against the past shadows of my melanoma.

What are your best sun protection tips?

  • Arm yourself with sunscreen, a minimum SPF of 30, even on cloudy days.
  • Seek refuge in nature's shade during peak hours.
  • Deck yourself out in protective gear – hats, sunglasses – making a stylish statement of health.
  • Regular check-ups with a dermatologist are essential.
  • Share the knowledge; educate others about the pivotal role of sun safety.

What would you tell other women who aren’t too concerned with sun safety and skin protection, especially young women?

To all the adventurous souls, especially the young ones exploring life's vast terrain: your skin tells a story of resilience, not regret. Embrace your natural beauty, protect your canvas. Neglecting sun safety is a detour you don't want to take. In our Airstream adventures, I’ve learned that investing in health and beauty pays the highest dividends. Let your journey be one of care, not shadows.

Thank you, Amy, for helping raise awareness of melanoma and the importance of sun protection and sharing your story with us and our Solbari Community.
