Your Story Series: Bobbie

When were you first diagnosed with psoriasis? What impact has it had on your day to day life?
I was diagnosed with psoriasis when I was about one year old. Since I’ve lived with it pretty much my whole life, it’s just always been part of my normal.
That said, when it flares, it can be tough. I’m not always comfortable having it on show, and things like cold weather dry out my skin even more.
What treatments have you found most helpful for managing your psoriasis? Are there certain things you have to avoid?
Over the years, I’ve found that keeping my diet clean really helps manage my psoriasis.
In terms of skincare, I’ve learned to stick to un-fragranced body washes and really hydrating moisturisers - anything gentle and nourishing.
Has your approach to clothing changed since your diagnosis with psoriasis? What do you look for in fabrics when shopping for clothing?
I’ve found that breathable fabrics make a big difference, anything light and airy is a lot more comfortable on my skin.
I tend to look for soft, natural materials like cotton or bamboo that let my skin breathe and don’t trap heat or moisture.
What advice would you give to someone who is beginning their journey with a skin condition?
Be kind to yourself, take care of your body, and try not to let it define you. Confidence goes a long way and the more you look after yourself, the more it shows from the inside out.
